Illinois Wesleyan Titans softball team sweeps Millikin in doubleheader at Inspiration Field

The Illinois Wesleyan University women’s softball team defeated Millikin University in a doubleheader on April 16 at Inspiration Field, securing victories of 5-0 and 10-1. The Titans improved their record to 19-11 overall and strengthened their position in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin with a 9-1 conference mark.

These wins are significant as they keep the Titans near the top of their conference standings and demonstrate strong performances both offensively and defensively. The games were played at Inspiration Field, which serves as the home field for Illinois Wesleyan’s women’s softball program according to the official website.

In game one, Kelsey Bartels started a first-inning rally that included a two-run homer by Casey Wissmiller. Anna Beckman added a triple, Claire Post drove in another run, and Isabella Boskey capped off a four-run inning with an RBI single. Pitcher Gianna Certa held Millikin hitless until the sixth inning and finished with two hits allowed over seven innings, recording four strikeouts.

The second game saw Illinois Wesleyan take an early lead after walks and hits loaded the bases. Grace Wilkens scored after singling and stealing bases before Beckman delivered two RBIs. Bella Pinter executed a squeeze play successfully while Boskey hit a bases-clearing double to extend the lead to five runs after one inning. Mallory Holland pitched for IWU, allowing only one run on two hits across three innings before Caroline Gatchell closed out the game.

The Titans collected eleven hits in game two while limiting Millikin to three. Wissmiller and Riley McDoniel each recorded multiple hits; Pinter led with three RBIs.

According to the official website, Illinois Wesleyan competes at the NCAA Division III level as part of intercollegiate athletics within Bloomington, Illinois. The program is affiliated with both NCAA Division IIIand participates in conference play through membership in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin.

Looking ahead, Illinois Wesleyan will travel for its final road trip of CCIW regular season play against Elmhurst University on April 18.
