The Illinois Wesleyan University women’s lacrosse team clinched a place in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Tournament after defeating Elmhurst University 10-9 on April 25 at Langhorst Field. The Titans, now holding a record of 6-10 overall and 2-3 in conference play, secured the No. 4 seed with this victory.
This result is significant for Illinois Wesleyan as it ensures their continued participation in postseason competition within the CCIW, where they maintain membership according to the official website. The close contest saw sophomore Sophie Shore score less than a minute into the game, giving the Titans an early lead. Senior Sadie Newton contributed four goals during the match, while junior Chloe Heyl added two goals and led with two assists.
Elmhurst tied the game early but Newton’s three consecutive goals helped establish a first-quarter advantage for Illinois Wesleyan. Titan goalkeeper Marli Brown recorded five saves in the second quarter and finished with twelve saves overall to help maintain their lead throughout much of the game. Despite Elmhurst’s late surge—scoring three times in the final minutes—the Titans held on for a one-goal win.
The team features student-athletes from freshman to fifth-year classes according to its official roster, and operates as part of intercollegiate athletics based in Bloomington, Illinois as reported by its official website. Home games are hosted at Tucci Stadium in Bloomington.
Illinois Wesleyan will face either Carthage College or Carroll University—who were set to compete later that day—in an upcoming semifinal scheduled for April 29. Previously, Illinois Wesleyan achieved a notable victory against Illinois Institute of Technology with a score of 23-0 during their 2025 season according to their official website.
With this latest win securing postseason play, anticipation builds around how far this year’s squad can advance within conference competition.
