The Illinois Wesleyan University women’s lacrosse team will play against Carthage College at Tucci Stadium in Bloomington on Saturday, April 18, according to an announcement made on Apr. 17. The game is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. and follows the men’s lacrosse team’s match against Carthage earlier that day.
This contest is part of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin schedule and holds significance as both teams look to improve their standings in intercollegiate athletics. Before the start of the game, Illinois Wesleyan will honor Mia Fiandaca for her All-American recognition from last season. Fiandaca was named a USA Lacrosse Magazine All-American Honorable Mention after leading her team in several categories during her senior year.
Fiandaca’s achievements include leading with 36 goals, collecting 47 ground balls, causing 58 turnovers, and being second in draw controls with 53. She was named CCIW Defensive Player of the Year and earned First Team All-CCIW honors for a second time in her career. “Fiandaca represented the Green and White at the IWLCA Senior All-Star game, closing out her decorated career,” said university officials.
The Titans currently have a record of five wins and eight losses overall (1-1 conference). Seniors Anelise DiGiovanni and Sadie Newton continue to lead offensively this season, while sophomore Sophie Shore contributes both goals and defensive plays. In goalkeeping duties, Marli Brown has recorded over one hundred saves so far this season.
