Ingalls Memorial Hospital announced on April 24 its support for Black Maternal Health Week by providing affirmation blankets to new mothers. The hospital said these blankets are intended as reminders of strength, resilience, and the community supporting mothers throughout their journey.
The initiative aims to address the needs of Black mothers and highlights ongoing efforts to ensure that every mother feels heard, supported, and empowered. Ingalls Memorial Hospital expressed gratitude toward its Labor & Delivery team, saying, “A heartfelt thank you to our incredible Labor & Delivery team, whose compassion and dedication make a lasting difference for every family they serve.”
Funding for such programs is secured through philanthropic donations via the Ingalls Development Foundation, according to the official website. The hospital also advances community healthcare by funding programs such as cancer care and wellness initiatives in addition to maternal health support.
In recent years, Ingalls Memorial Hospital has promoted community well-being through projects like community gardens that emphasize food as medicine, according to the official website. The hospital delivers healthcare services in the Chicago Southland region—including Harvey, Calumet City, Flossmoor, Tinley Park, Orland Park, and Crestwood—through its main campus in Harvey and several outpatient facilities in local communities.
Founded in 1923 by Frederick A. Ingalls, the hospital maintains a relationship with UChicago Medicine for enhanced healthcare access. Its commitment includes supporting outpatient facilities and wellness efforts across Chicago Southland neighborhoods.
The hospital said it remains dedicated to building a future where all mothers receive comprehensive support at every step.
