The Illinois State Medical Society announced on April 3 that the deadline for renewing medical and controlled substance licenses is July 31, 2026. The organization is offering continuing medical education (CME) courses that meet all state-mandated requirements at no cost to its members.

The upcoming licensure renewal affects many healthcare professionals across Illinois, who must complete specific CME topics to maintain their credentials. ISMS said it provides courses in areas such as sexual harassment prevention, opioid prescribing, implicit bias, cultural competency, dementia recognition, and child abuse reporting.

Some of the available trainings include “Sexual Misconduct: How to Protect Yourself and Your Patients,” “An Introduction to Addiction Medicine,” “Addressing Implicit Bias in Medical Care,” and “Alzheimer’s Disease & Related Dementias: Essentials for Illinois Medical Professionals.” These offerings are designed to help physicians fulfill state licensing obligations efficiently.

To assist with planning for the renewal process, ISMS encourages members to consult its Licensure FAQs and an at-a-glance chart outlining CME needs. The society also invites questions via email through its Education and Accreditation team.

The organization’s reminder aims to ensure that physicians remain compliant with state laws while maintaining high standards of patient care.
