Illinois State Representative Paul Jacobs congratulated the Southern Illinois University Flying Salukis on their national championship win at the National Intercollegiate Flying Association SAFECON competition, held in Moline from May 18 to 23. The event took place at The Quad Cities International Airport.
Jacobs said he was proud of the team’s accomplishment and recognized their achievement during the recent competition. Details about the event were made available by Jacobs, who highlighted the importance of such recognition for local students and educational programs.
Jacobs, a Republican, was elected to the Illinois State House in 2023 to represent the state’s 118th House District, replacing previous state representative Patrick Windhorst, according to the Illinois General Assembly.
The National Intercollegiate Flying Association SAFECON is an annual collegiate aviation competition that brings together teams from across the country. The Southern Illinois University Flying Salukis have a history of participation in this event.
Jacobs’ office has encouraged residents to learn more about SIU’s aviation program and future competitions.
