Jeremiah McClendon, a cornerback for the Southern Illinois University football team over the past two seasons, has signed with the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent, according to an April 25 announcement from the university.

McClendon joined Southern Illinois after playing at Florida International in 2023 and Charleston Southern in 2022. In his most recent season, he tied the school’s single-season record with 14 pass breakups across 12 games. He also recorded two interceptions, made 59 tackles, registered one sack, forced one fumble and recovered another. Over his time at Southern Illinois, McClendon played in a total of 20 games.

During his final season with the Salukis, McClendon was recognized as an All-American and earned a spot on the All-Missouri Valley Football Conference First Team. The Saluki football program competes at the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision level and claimed a national title in 1983 according to its official website.
