John Deere announced on May 14 a $250,000 commitment to support disaster preparedness and relief through the American Red Cross Disaster Responder Program. The company said this contribution continues a partnership that began in 1917 when members of the Deere family helped form the Moline Red Cross chapter during the Spanish Influenza epidemic.
The renewed investment is intended to help communities where John Deere employees live and work, as well as provide support across the country. According to John Deere, early funding allows the Red Cross to respond quickly when disasters strike by mobilizing volunteers, technology, and resources for shelter, meals, emotional support and other critical services.
Taryn Edgin, director of Global Corporate Responsibility and President of the John Deere Foundation said: “I think about our employees and neighbors in the Quad Cities, in Waterloo, and in communities across the country. When disaster hits close to home, you want to know help is already on its way. That’s what this partnership makes possible. By investing before disasters happen, we help the Red Cross respond fast, whether it’s a tornado or a house fire down the street.”
The company highlights that by contributing before disasters occur, donors like John Deere are essential for enabling timely assistance after both large-scale events and individual emergencies.
John Deere was founded by blacksmith John Deere who developed agricultural tools for farmers according to the official website. The company maintains sites such as the John Deere Historic Site and Tractor & Engine Museum to highlight its heritage. It has been recognized as one of the world’s most ethical companies by Ethisphere; owns more than 25 subsidiary brands globally including Wirtgen and Monosem; employs around 75,000 people worldwide; and focuses on innovation in agriculture, forestry and infrastructure solutions according to its official website.
Looking ahead, John Deere said it remains committed to supporting disaster response efforts through ongoing partnerships with organizations like the American Red Cross.
