Joliet West High School announced on April 24 a series of academic support programs, community events, and student opportunities as the school year draws to a close.
The information is important for students and families seeking academic assistance, meal support, and ways to participate in extracurricular activities before the summer break. The announcement includes reminders about free virtual tutoring, available breakfast options at school, summer meal programs, special events such as concerts and trade shows, volunteer opportunities, graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2026 on May 23, and more.
Students can sign up for free virtual math and science tutoring provided by Joliet Township High School teachers. Sessions are available before school, after school, evenings, and weekends until May 22. Breakfast is served daily at each campus following United States Department of Agriculture guidelines; meals cost $2 with payment through student accounts only. Additionally, children under age 18 can access free summer meals at various Joliet-area sites through an Illinois State Board of Education program. Families interested in food support may be eligible for the Summer SUN Bucks EBT Program funded by the USDA starting late May.
Several notable events are scheduled in coming weeks: an essay contest celebrating America’s 250th anniversary is open until May 31; Will County Land Resource Management Plan community open houses will take place April 28 and May 14; FAFSA completion assistance will be offered April 29 at Joliet West; a CEO Trade Show showcasing student businesses will be held April 30 at Louis Joliet Mall; multiple spring music concerts are planned throughout early May; community service opportunities include neighborhood cleanups on May 2 and volunteering during District Math Night on May 7.
Joliet West High School serves grades nine through twelve with an enrollment of approximately 3,310 students during the 2019-2020 school year in Joliet within Will County according to Illinois Report Card. Of these students that year: grade nine had the highest proportion at about twenty-seven percent while grade ten accounted for nearly twenty-five percent according to Illinois Report Card; grade eleven comprised roughly twenty-five percent according to Illinois Report Card; grade twelve made up just over twenty-six percent according to Illinois Report Card. The school’s demographic breakdown included approximately thirty-five percent white students, thirty-nine percent Hispanic students, twenty-one percent black students, and nearly two percent Asian students during that period according to Illinois Report Card.
The JTHS Foundation Golf Outing takes place June 4 with proceeds supporting scholarships and grants for district staff and seniors as well as other educational initiatives.
