Justice Elizabeth M. Rochford of the Illinois Supreme Court will administer the attorney’s oath to 21 new lawyers on May 6 in the Second Judicial District.

The ceremony is part of a statewide event where a total of 279 individuals will be sworn in and admitted to practice law in Illinois across five Supreme Court judicial districts. The Second Judicial District ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the Hemmens Cultural Center, located at 45 Symphony Way in Elgin.

Kevin Berrill, President of the Lake County Bar Association, will make the motion to admit the class, which will be seconded by Sarah Toney, Second Vice President of the Illinois State Bar Association. Justice Rochford will rule on this motion, administer the oath, and deliver remarks during the event. Following the ceremony, there will be a reception hosted by the Illinois State Bar Association.

All candidates have passed both the Illinois State Bar Examination and an ethics examination and were certified by the Supreme Court Committee on Character and Fitness. In addition to Elgin, similar ceremonies are being held in Chicago, Joliet, Springfield, and Mt. Vernon. The Second Judicial District includes DeKalb, Kane, Kendall, Lake, and McHenry counties.
