The Kane County Division of Transportation announced on May 8 a change in the traffic pattern for the ongoing Kirk Road Portland Cement Concrete repair project, which will take effect during the week of May 11.

This update matters to local drivers and residents as it will affect travel along Kirk Road between State Street (Route 38) in Geneva and Route 64 in St. Charles. The County said it began work in April and has finished concrete repairs on the outside lanes, sidewalks, and patching. With this phase complete, crews will shift their focus to repairing the inside lanes. The interior lanes are expected to be closed for several weeks while workers remove old concrete and pour new material.

Starting next week, only one lane of traffic will be open in each direction using the exterior or curbside lanes. The County reports that construction activities include Portland Cement Concrete patching, improvements to Americans with Disabilities Act sidewalk ramps, removal and replacement of concrete medians, as well as curb and gutter repairs.

According to officials, construction is expected to be substantially finished by June with a final completion date set for July if weather allows. Work hours are scheduled from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday. While Kirk Road will remain open throughout construction, lane closures may change depending on progress; flaggers will help direct motorists safely through work zones.
