Kane County will increase its County Motor Fuel Tax rate on sales of motor fuel starting July 1, 2026, according to an announcement on Apr. 8.

The change is made under the authority of the County Motor Fuel Tax Law, specifically section 55 ILCS 5/5-1035.1. The adjustment affects consumers and businesses purchasing motor fuel in Kane County.

Currently, retail sales of motor fuel in Kane County are taxed at a rate of five cents per gallon. This rate applies through June 30, 2026. Beginning July 1, the new tax rate will be eight cents per gallon for all retail sales within the county.

Officials advise residents and retailers to review Informational Bulletin FY 2026-20 for more details about these changes.

The increased tax is expected to impact both drivers and businesses operating in Kane County as they adjust to the higher cost per gallon after July.
