Kirby School District 140 announced on May 22 the retirement of several staff members who have served the district for many years. The district expressed gratitude for their dedication and service to students and families.

The retirees include Nancy Allen, Kelly Cavarretta, Karen Crean, Carrie Drechny, Sandy Hutchinson, Diane Jacobs, Leonard Klingen, Mary Koblosky, Colleen Murrihy, Cynthia Muys, Joan Renken, Michael Szczasny, Michelle Szumigalski and Mary Weber. Their years of service range from six to thirty-seven years.

Helen Keller Elementary School is one of the schools in Kirby School District 140. The school serves nearly 400 students from kindergarten through fifth grade and employs more than 80 staff members. It focuses on building a safe and nurturing community environment to equip students with essential life skills and emphasizes innovative technology as well as character development. The school also fosters a supportive learning environment that promotes lifelong learning and good character among its students. These efforts are highlighted by its recognition as an Apple Distinguished School for 2023-26 according to the official website.
