Kirby School District 140 announced on May 6 that its eighth-grade celebrations were a success, marking an important milestone for the Class of 2026.
The district highlighted the significance of these events in recognizing students’ achievements as they prepare to move on from middle school. “Our eighth-grade celebrations were a resounding success, marking an exciting milestone for the Class of 2026,” the district said.
District officials also acknowledged those who contributed to making the events possible. “A special thank you to our PTOs, parent volunteers, staff, middle school families, and local businesses whose support and generosity helped make these events truly memorable for our students,” the statement said.
Kirby School District 140 represents Cook County and includes Christa McAuliffe School, Fernway Park Elementary School, Helen Keller Elementary School, John A. Bannes Elementary School, Millennium Elementary School, Prairie View Middle School, and Virgil I. Grissom Middle School,according to the Illinois Report Card. The district enrolled 3,606 students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade during the 2019-2020 school year and is located in Tinley Park,according to the Illinois Report Card.
The teaching staff consists of 258 teachers with an average salary of $68,179 before pension contributions; about ninety percent are women and ten percent are men. There were no teachers with more than ten absences in a school year,according to the Illinois Report Card. The student body is composed of approximately eighty percent White students; other represented groups include Black (3.3 percent), Hispanic (8.2 percent), and Asian (4.4 percent) students.according to the Illinois Report Card
In terms of finances and attendance records for recent years: Kirby spent $20,628 per student in 2020 with total expenditures reaching over $74 million.according to the Illinois Report Card The chronic truancy rate was reported at half a percent—eighteen chronically truant students—well below statewide averages.according to the Illinois Report Card
Looking ahead after this year’s celebrations, Kirby continues its focus on supporting student achievement as classes progress toward high school.
