Kirby School District 140 announced on April 24 its latest weekly wrap-up, featuring candid photos that showcase the talents and enthusiasm of its students. The district said these images capture the spirit of the school community.

The regular sharing of student accomplishments is intended to celebrate individual stories and foster a sense of unity across the district’s schools. “Each week, Kirby School District 140 celebrates the talents and passion of our students by posting a collection of candid photos. Every picture tells a story, and together, these snapshots capture the spirit of Kirby School District 140,” according to the district.

Kirby School District 140 serves several schools in Cook County, including Christa McAuliffe School, Fernway Park Elementary School, Helen Keller Elementary School, John A. Bannes Elementary School, Millennium Elementary School, Prairie View Middle School, and Virgil I. Grissom Middle School according to Illinois Report Card. The district enrolled 3,606 students during the 2019-2020 school year and serves grades pre-kindergarten through eighth grade in Tinley Park and Cook County according to Illinois Report Card.

The teaching staff consists of 258 teachers with an average salary of $68,179 before pension contributions; about nine out of ten are women. No teacher had more than ten absences during a school year according to Illinois Report Card. The student population is made up primarily of White students at nearly eighty percent; Black students represent just over three percent; Hispanic students account for more than eight percent; Asian students make up over four percent according to Illinois Report Card.

In terms of financial data from 2020, Kirby spent $20,628 per student for a total expenditure exceeding seventy-four million dollars according to Illinois Report Card. Student attendance data shows that only eighteen were classified as “chronically truant” in the same year—a rate significantly lower than both state averages and other districts like Gen. George Patton School District in Riverdale according to Illinois Report Card.

By continuing initiatives such as its weekly photo series celebrating everyday achievements across all represented schools in Cook County, Kirby aims to maintain high engagement among families while highlighting positive outcomes throughout its diverse learning community.
