Kirby School District 140 expressed gratitude to teachers, staff, parents, and community members for their support and involvement during the school year, according to a May 22 statement. The district wished everyone a safe and enjoyable summer break and announced that classes will resume in August.
The message highlights the importance of collaboration in education. “Educating children is truly a team effort, and we value your partnership,” the district said.
Kirby School District 140 serves Cook County and includes Christa McAuliffe School, Fernway Park Elementary School, Helen Keller Elementary School, John A. Bannes Elementary School, Millennium Elementary School, Prairie View Middle School, and Virgil I. Grissom Middle School. The district enrolled 3,606 students in the 2019-2020 school year and serves grades pre-kindergarten through eighth grade in Tinley Park and Cook County,according to the Illinois State Board of Education.
The teaching staff consists of 258 teachers with an average salary of $68,179 before pension contributions; about 90 percent are women while nearly ten percent are men. No teachers had more than ten absences in a school year,according to the Illinois State Board of Education. The student population is approximately eighty percent White with smaller percentages identifying as Black (3 percent), Hispanic (8 percent), or Asian (4 percent). In terms of attendance issues, only eighteen students were classified as chronically truant during the most recent reported year—a rate much lower than the statewide average.According to data from state education officials, per-student spending was $20,628 in 2020 for a total expenditure exceeding $74 million.
