The Lake County Sheriff’s Office announced on May 6 that it will participate in a traffic safety initiative along Illinois Route 59 on May 9. Law enforcement agencies from the Wisconsin state line to Will County, all with jurisdiction over portions of the nearly 72-mile route, will join this effort.
Illinois Route 59 is described as a heavily traveled roadway used by both residents and visitors. The initiative aims to address major traffic violations and improve overall road safety along this corridor.
Throughout the day, sheriff’s deputies will focus on what are called the “Fatal Four” violations: driving under the influence, speeding, seat belt or child restraint use, and distracted driving. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said these high-visibility campaigns are part of ongoing efforts to keep local roads safe.
This enforcement effort is supported by federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation. It aligns with statewide campaigns such as “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” “Click It or Ticket,” and “It’s Not a Game.”
Weber, a Republican, was elected to the Illinois State House in 2019 to represent the state’s 64th House District, replacing previous state representative Barbara Wheeler, according to Ballotpedia.
Officials encourage drivers traveling along Illinois Route 59 during this period to follow all posted laws and remain alert.
