Lake Forest Community High School announced on April 28 that teachers Sara Dreiling, Melissa Halkias, and Kim Jones have developed a partnership between high school juniors and Little Scouts Preschool. The initiative involved students writing personalized children’s books for preschoolers at Little Scouts.

The project is intended to foster creativity among Lake Forest High School students while providing unique, personalized literature to preschool children. Each junior wrote a book tailored specifically for an individual child in the preschool program.

This year, the students enhanced their original stories by generating images using artificial intelligence technology. Teachers then arranged for these books to be professionally bound before they were presented to the preschoolers.

As part of the collaboration, the entire class visited LFHS West Campus where juniors read their completed books aloud to the children. Afterward, each preschooler was able to keep their own personalized book as a gift from the older students.

“Sara, Kim, and Melissa have created an experience where the LFHS students use their creative writing abilities, and they give personalized literature to our future Scouts,” according to the announcement.

The partnership aims not only to enrich learning experiences for both age groups but also strengthens ties between different levels of education within the community.
