Lake Zurich Community Unit School District 95 announced on April 23 that Ortho Insect Killer granules will be applied to all district campuses from Saturday, April 25 through Saturday, May 2, weather permitting. The district said the treatment is a response to an increase in ticks in the local area.
The use of insecticide aims to address concerns about student and staff safety as tick populations have risen. The Facilities Department will oversee the application process across all schools within the district.
“Please note that the district Facilities Department will be applying Ortho Insect Killer granules to all campuses of District 95 schools from Saturday, April 25 through Saturday, May 2nd, 2026 (weather permitting).  These insecticides are being applied due to an increase in ticks in the local area,” according to a statement released by the district.
The Lake Zurich Community Unit School District 95 represents several schools in Lake County, including Isaac Fox Elementary School, Lake Zurich High School, both North and South Campuses of Lake Zurich Middle School, May Whitney Elementary School, Sarah Adams Elementary School, Seth Paine Elementary School, and Spencer Loomis Elementary School according to Illinois Report Card. The district enrolled approximately 5,543 students during the 2019-2020 school year and serves grades pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade according to Illinois Report Card.
Demographically, Lake Zurich Community Unit School District 95 is composed of approximately 78.5 percent White students, with smaller percentages of Black (1.3 percent), Hispanic (7.5 percent), and Asian (9.5 percent) students according to Illinois Report Card. The average teacher salary is $76,420 before pension contributions; women make up roughly three-quarters of teachers at nearly eighty percent according to Illinois Report Card.
Financially, spending per student was $24,707 in fiscal year 2020 for a total expenditure of $136.9 million according to Illinois Report Card. Chronic truancy rates remain below state averages: only about two percent—or one hundred students—were classified as chronically truant compared with nearly ten percent statewide according to Illinois Report Card.
