Landan Carper from Saint Jacob served as Rep. Charlie Meier’s Page for the Day in the Illinois House of Representatives, according to a May 22 announcement.
The recognition highlights opportunities for local students to engage with state government and learn about legislative processes firsthand.
“It is refreshing to see young people like Landan have an interest in government,” said Rep. Charlie Meier. “It was an honor to have him around and show him around the Capitol. He is going to go on to do great things!”
Carper recently graduated from Triad High School in Troy with a 3.9 GPA and will attend McKendree University this fall, where he plans to study Political Science and Pre-Law. During high school, he participated in several extracurricular activities including National Honors Society, Model UN, Trap Shooting Team, Scholar Bowl, serving as Treasurer of the Leo Club and President of the Alpha Club.
Meier, a Republican, was elected to the Illinois State House in 2023 to represent the state’s 109th House District after replacing previous state representative David Reis, according to the Illinois General Assembly.
Observers say programs like Page for the Day can encourage civic engagement among youth interested in public service.
