The Western Illinois University Leathernecks women’s tennis team ended its season on Apr. 17 after a loss to Lindenwood in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament in St. Louis.
The match saw the Leathernecks secure the doubles point, with Mana Fawcett and Jessica Hess winning at No. 1 doubles, 7-5, and Chloe Routier and Richardlyne Francois taking No. 3 doubles in a close tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-0). Despite this early advantage, Western Illinois was unable to carry the momentum into singles play.
In singles competition, Routier lost at No. 1 after three sets (6-0, 1-6, 2-6), while Francois fell at No. 3 (2-6, 6-1, 1-6). Hess also went three sets before losing at No. 5 (6-3, 1-6, 2-6), and Nadezhda Petkova narrowly missed a win at No. 6 (7-6 [7-1], 2-6, 5-7). Matches for Fawcett and Nour Gueblaoui were left unfinished.
