Lemont High School announced on May 22 that it implemented Stay in Place procedures during third period after learning two unauthorized individuals were present inside the building.
The incident prompted immediate action from staff, who notified the Lemont Police Department and began an investigation. The school said classroom instruction continued as normal during third period, but students remained in their classrooms during the passing period between third and fourth periods while Stay in Place procedures remained active.
According to a statement from the school, “Through conversations with students and review of footage from our security cameras, our staff learned two non-Lemont High School students had been admitted to the building by one or more of our students. Our staff thoroughly reviewed the interior and exterior of the building and determined the unauthorized individuals had left campus.”
Once staff determined there was no threat to safety, Stay in Place procedures were lifted and students were allowed to move to their fourth period classes. The school confirmed that dismissal would proceed at 1 p.m. as scheduled.
