Libs of TikTok, a prominent account on the social media platform X, has announced that it obtained internal documents from the Illinois State Police. These documents reveal that officers are required to complete mandatory Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) training. The training covers topics such as LGBTQ issues, pronoun usage, and workplace equity. Non-compliance with these sessions could potentially lead to termination.

According to Libs of TikTok, the released documents detail the specific requirements of the DEI training. Officers are instructed on using preferred pronouns, identifying instances of misgendering, allowing restroom access based on gender identity, and promoting LGBTQ activism within the workplace.

The Illinois State Police has mandated this diversity training for its personnel since 2021. This initiative includes requirements for evaluators and efforts to increase diversity in certain units. Under Governor JB Pritzker’s administration, taxpayer funds have been allocated for these programs amid concerns about resource allocation.

Research indicates that over 96 percent of policing agencies in the United States require in-service training for officers, averaging 39 hours annually per officer. However, studies suggest that common approaches to diversity training in law enforcement do not significantly change officer behavior. National data highlights ongoing challenges in achieving effective outcomes from such programs.
