Libs of TikTok reported on May 22 the federal grand jury indictment of Diego Emmanuel Reyes, who is accused of ramming his SUV into a vehicle driven by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent during Operation Midway Blitz on the Southwest Side of Chicago. The incident allegedly occurred while the agent was performing official duties.
According to Libs of TikTok, “Libs of TikTok shared details of the federal grand jury indictment against Diego Emmanuel Reyes who allegedly rammed his SUV into a vehicle driven by an ICE agent engaged in official duties during Operation Midway Blitz on the Southwest Side of Chicago.” The account posted breaking details and video footage from the event, describing how Reyes allegedly struck the rear of the agent’s vehicle and then accelerated forward while enforcement actions were underway on October 4, 2025. The charges were filed in U.S. District Court in Chicago.
Operation Midway Blitz targeted criminal illegal aliens in sanctuary jurisdictions including Illinois and resulted in thousands of arrests concentrated in and around Chicago. Apprehensions climbed sharply once the operation began with more than 760 people taken into custody in September 2025, followed by 2,074 in October and 811 in November. Enforcement activity during the operation exceeded combined totals from 2023 and 2024 across the state, according to ABC7 Chicago.
Assaults against ICE officers have increased significantly nationwide. There was a reported 1,300 percent increase in assaults against ICE officers during the first year of the current administration compared with the prior year. Vehicular attacks also rose sharply, with 66 incidents recorded from January 21, 2025, through January 7, 2026, versus only two incidents during the same period previously. This data highlights risks faced by federal officers enforcing immigration laws nationwide, according to the Department of Homeland Security.
