Lincoln Middle School celebrated the promotion of its eighth-grade students at Maine East High School on May 29. The ceremony marked a significant milestone, celebrating the culmination of their middle school journey and the beginning of a new chapter in high school.
Lincoln’s administration shared their pride in the outgoing class. “You are leaving Lincoln with numerous achievements, many friendships, and fond memories,” said Lincoln Principal David Szwed. “You have shown that you are ready to face the challenges ahead, to find reward in the new experiences that are waiting for you, and that you are ready to succeed.”
Eighth-grader Landon Genson welcomed attendees and acknowledged those who supported students throughout middle school. “Look around anywhere at the people at the ceremony right now, you will find someone who has helped you grow and reach higher levels than you ever wanted to,” said Landon. “To many, that is our wonderful teachers and staff who have brought us to where we are.”
Scarlett Kraut addressed her peers about appreciating shared experiences: “The friendships, inside jokes, group chats, and shared laughs are what made Lincoln feel like home,” Scarlett noted. “As Dr. Seuss said, ‘Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory.’ Looking back, I can see how true that is for all of us.” Molly Ott delivered the final student address focusing on resilience: “High school is filled to the brim with new opportunities to forge your path,” Molly said. “I have faith in this class that we will not only survive high school, but thrive there.”
A highlight was presenting awards for character and leadership: Evan Mason and Eliza Borgula received the Judith L. Snow Ethical Leadership Award; Clarice Beseda and Ryan Spellman received the Jim Blouch Emotional Intelligence Award.
In closing remarks, Principal Szwed offered graduates five reminders: grow into who they are meant to be; engage with life off-screen; avoid stressing about the future; laugh often; and be kind.
