Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan (D-Chicago) has dished out at least six-figure contributions to the campaigns of 22 Democratic candidates in this election cycle, according to Get Illinois Right.
With the election just days away, Get Illinois Right reports the longtime House Speaker is leaving no stone unturned in his quest to maintain power. Many see this election as critical to the state’s future.
At least three House incumbents, Reps. Deb Conroy (D-Villa Park), Sam Yingling (D-Grayslake) and Katie Stuart (D-Edwardsville) have received over $1 million in funding from Madigan’s various organizations.
Meanwhile, Reps. Marty Moylan (D-Des Plaines), Michelle Mussman (D-Schaumburg) and Jerry Costello (D-Smithton) each have received a minimum of $849,386, while 53rd District candidate Mark Walker took in $851,198.
In all, Get Illinois Right counts 24 Democratic House candidates who have received at least $22,082 in funding from Madigan heading into the Nov. 6 election.
Illinois Policy Institute recently composed a Top 10 list of House incumbents receiving the most financial support from Madigan. The list includes: Yingling, Conroy, Stuart, Moylan, Mussman, Fred Crespo (D-Hoffman Estates), $895,336; Sue Scherer (D-Decatur), $892,609; Stephanie Kifowit (D-Oswego), $732,852; Kathleen Willis (D-Addison), $588,821; and Natalie Manley, D-Joilet, $535,940.
Madigan has served as Illinois House Speaker for more than four decades, outlasting five governors in becoming the longest-serving state or federal Speaker in the country in modern times.
