Paving work on Main Street between Jefferson Avenue and Adams Street is set to begin at 7 a.m. on Friday, April 17, with ongoing paving also continuing along Jefferson Avenue between Fayette Street and N. William Kumpf Boulevard, according to an announcement released on April 16.

The planned roadwork is expected to create significant traffic disruptions in downtown Peoria. Motorists are advised that delays of up to 30 minutes may occur while paving operations are underway. The city strongly encourages drivers to use alternative routes during this period.

In addition to the paving activities, striping will continue in the south side parking lane of Adams Street from N. William Kumpf Boulevard to Hamilton Boulevard, which will be closed for the duration of the work. Lane closures will periodically affect Main Street between Jefferson Avenue and Adams Street throughout Friday as construction progresses in different sections of the roadway.

On Jefferson Avenue, two far-left lanes from the Interstate 74 overpass to N. William Kumpf Boulevard will remain closed entirely. Parking restrictions are also being enforced: no on-street parking will be allowed along Main Street between Jefferson Avenue and Adams Street or in designated areas of Adams and Jefferson Avenues while meters are bagged; vehicles parked in restricted zones risk being towed.

Drivers entering or exiting nearby parking decks such as the Jefferson Parking Deck or County of Peoria Parking Deck should anticipate longer wait times due to these changes. The city recommends using S.W. Adams Street for deck access where possible, while additional off-street parking remains available at Niagara and Twin Towers decks via Madison Avenue or Monroe Street.

Lane closures and parking restrictions may change daily as resurfacing continues into early summer when completion is anticipated for the broader Adams Street and Jefferson Avenue One-Way to Two-Way Conversion Project.
