The City of Peoria announced on April 14 that resurfacing work will begin at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, April 15, resulting in lane and parking restrictions on Main Street between Jefferson Avenue and Adams Street. The work is part of the Adams Street and Jefferson Avenue One-Way to Two-Way Conversion Project.

These new restrictions add to ongoing closures already in place on Jefferson Avenue from the Interstate 74 overpass to N. William Kumpf Boulevard, as well as Walnut Street between S.W. Adams Street and S.W. Jefferson Avenue.

Drivers are advised to expect long delays during this period, with the city strongly recommending the use of alternative routes. Periodic lane closures will take place throughout the day on both Main Street and Walnut Street as all lanes are milled for resurfacing. Lane closures in the affected blocks may change during the day based on progress.

Parking will also be restricted: On-street parking is prohibited along Main Street between Jefferson Avenue and Adams Street, Walnut Street between S.W. Adams and S.W. Jefferson avenues, and along the south side of Jefferson Avenue from Interstate 74 overpass to N. William Kumpf Boulevard while meters are bagged in these areas. Vehicles parked in restricted zones will be subject to towing.

Off-street parking remains available at several nearby decks including Jefferson, Niagara, and Twin Towers parking decks; drivers are encouraged to use Madison Avenue or Monroe Street for access where appropriate.

The city reminds drivers that daily changes should be expected regarding lane closures or parking rules due to construction activity, with temporary delays up to 30 minutes possible when entering or exiting area businesses or garages during milling or paving operations. Extra caution is urged within work zones where workers may be present; flaggers may assist traffic flow as needed.

Daily updates about project progress will continue until completion of resurfacing work, which is expected by early summer.
