A Better Chicago announced on Mar. 18 that Matthew Brewer has joined its Board of Directors. Brewer is the Operating Chairman at the Chicago Housing Authority, a partner at Bartlit Beck LLP, and co-owner of Wiener’s Circle.
The addition of Brewer to the board is significant for A Better Chicago as it continues its work supporting youth-focused nonprofits in the city. The organization uses data analytics to identify and support programs that aim to improve education, career readiness, and life outcomes for underserved youth.
Brewer oversees operations and programs at the Chicago Housing Authority, which is one of the largest housing authorities in the United States. He also provides legal and business advice as a partner at Bartlit Beck LLP. In addition to his professional roles, Brewer founded floChicago, an initiative focused on helping young changemakers gain access to opportunities through mentorship and transformative experiences.
Beth Swanson, CEO of A Better Chicago, said: “Matt’s leadership and dedication to Chicago’s youth embody the mission of A Better Chicago, and we are thrilled to welcome him to our board. He understands how access and opportunity can transform lives and is committed to ensuring more young people across our city can achieve their full potential.”
Brewer said: “In my own life, I have experienced the thin line between opportunity and struggle. The right opportunities at the right time can change a young person’s trajectory and place them on the better side of that thin line. That’s what A Better Chicago strives to do for the future of our city.”
Brewer holds degrees from Stanford University (B.A.), Yale Law School (J.D.), and Harvard Business School (M.B.A.).
