House Minority Leader Tony McCombie delivered state funding to the city of Galena on May 4 to support updates to city infrastructure and bring local historical sites up to code. The funding will also assist the Galena Jo Daviess County Historical Society and Museum with construction of a new museum building.
The funding comes from the Illinois Jobs Now capital program, which has supported projects such as ADA sidewalk updates in Galena and the new museum project. According to McCombie, she has worked with state partners over several years to ensure that this promised funding would be delivered.
Illinois Jobs Now is a $31 billion capital construction initiative launched in 2009 aimed at improving roads, bridges, schools, and community infrastructure across the state. McCombie said she was pleased to share news of the latest allocation with Galena City Manager Matt Oldenburg.
“State funding for these projects will help enshrine the historical significance of Galena but bring its codes up to date to make it thrive for years to come – including helping increase access the properties,” McCombie said. “I am thrilled that after a decades long wait; this came to fruition.”
McCombie was elected as a Republican representative for Illinois’ 89th House District in 2023, succeeding Andrew Chesney according to Ballotpedia.
McCombie said she remains committed to ensuring proper funding is delivered throughout her district and will continue advocating for necessary capital improvements in future legislative sessions.
