House Minority Leader Tony McCombie presented a House Resolution in committee on May 29. The resolution, HR923, aims to help ease the burden of childcare costs for working families in Illinois by supporting greater affordability for home daycares.

According to the announcement, McCombie said rising costs are impacting everyday life and emphasized the need for measures that support working families. The resolution passed unanimously in committee and will move to the House floor for further consideration.

The measure calls on the Illinois Department of Early Childhood (IDEC) to issue a report with their findings related to daycare affordability and submit it to the General Assembly by December 31, 2027.

McCombie, a Republican, was elected to the Illinois State House in 2023 to represent the state’s 89th House District, replacing previous state representative Andrew Chesney, according to Rep. McCombie’s office.

Next steps include consideration of HR923 by the full House.
