House Minority Leader Tony M. McCombie opposed a measure passed in the Illinois House on May 28 to regulate electronic bikes through Senate Bill 3336.

In a statement following the vote, McCombie said, “The Secretary of State’s push for e-bike regulation under the guise of safety disregards the many concerns of utility terrain vehicles (UTV) owners to protect roads and users.”

She continued, “Unfortunately, the measure passed today falls short and negates current law for driving under the influence. The Secretary of State’s effort to pass hasty regulation is a failure.”

McCombie was elected as a Republican to represent Illinois’ 89th House District in 2023, replacing previous state representative Andrew Chesney, according to her office.

The bill’s passage comes amid ongoing debates over how best to ensure road safety while balancing the interests of various vehicle owners.
