Clinical Manager Dr. Regina Parnell, along with Behavioral Health Advocates Jamie Essien and Destiny Gidron from the Mental Health Emergency Response Division of the Equity & Engagement Department, attended the R.A.C.E.S. “Take Back the Narrative” event on April 18.

The event took place at the Independent Media Center in Champaign to mark the 20th anniversary of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The evening included a multicultural variety show and a survivor art exhibition hosted by Director Jaya Kolisetty.

Representatives from Equity & Engagement hosted an outreach booth during the event, where they interacted with community members and shared information about available support services.

The participation of local mental health professionals highlights ongoing efforts to raise awareness about sexual assault and provide resources for survivors. Events like these aim to foster community engagement and ensure that those affected have access to help.

As Sexual Assault Awareness Month continues, organizers and participants encourage ongoing dialogue around prevention, support, and recovery within the community.
