The Millikin Big Blue baseball team won 13-3 against North Central College in Naperville, Illinois on April 21. The game ended after eight innings.
This win is significant for the Big Blue as it came during a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin matchup, highlighting their strong performance this season.
North Central started the scoring with a home run by Parker Wyatt and a sacrifice fly from Luke Wallace. Millikin tied the game in the fifth inning when Pete Britton singled down the left field line, allowing Leyton Ivers and Anderson Decker to score. Britton later scored on an error, followed by Sam Busher’s triple that brought Carder Reich home. Mick Niebrugge hit a home run for two more runs, and Gage Reynolds added another home run to bring himself and Easton Steck across the plate.
With an 8-2 lead going into the sixth inning, Millikin continued their offensive push. Reynolds singled up the middle to score Bushur, then Niebrugge scored on a wild pitch. Ivers’ single plated Steck, and another wild pitch allowed Reynolds to score Millikin’s twelfth run. North Central managed one more run with Ryan Huskey’s homerun before Britton singled again to bring Decker home for Millikin’s thirteenth run.
Ivers went three-for-five at bat while Reynolds and Britton each recorded three runs batted in (RBIs). Brayden Saling was credited with the win after pitching five innings, while Gavin Houchins earned a save by striking out five over three innings.
Millikin will next travel to Chicago for a doubleheader against North Park on Saturday, April 25.
