Millikin defeats Coe College 5-1 at Jimmy John’s Invite

Millikin University won against Coe College with a score of 5-1 in the final game of the Jimmy John’s Invite on March 8.

The game saw Coe College take an early lead by scoring one run in the first inning. Joey Ross started as pitcher for Millikin, delivering four innings and allowing only one hit and one run while striking out three batters.

Millikin’s offense came alive in the seventh inning. Ty Cribbett began the rally with a single, moving Leyton Ivers to third base. Carder Reich then tied the game with an RBI groundout that brought Ivers home. Sam Bushur followed up with a line drive to right field, scoring Cribbett and giving Millikin its first lead of the day. Easton Steck added two more runs with his third home run of the weekend, also bringing Bushur across home plate.

In the eighth inning, Millikin increased its lead when Cribbett hit another single to bring in an additional run. Gavin Houchins pitched five shutout innings in relief, allowing just two hits and striking out four to secure the win for Millikin.

Cribbett led Millikin offensively by going two-for-four at bat and recording one RBI during the game. The team will next play at home on Friday against Marian University.
