Millikin University’s men’s tennis team defeated Illinois Wesleyan University 6-1 at the Fairview Park Tennis Center on April 21.
The match was significant as it marked a strong performance for Millikin against their rivals, securing a decisive win in both doubles and singles competitions.
In doubles play, Millikin swept all three matches. Jorge Aura and Gillian Nahum won their No. 1 match with a score of 6-0 against Ben Vigneri and Ian Turnbull. Matthew Kordesh and Harry Masterman took the No. 2 spot after a close tiebreaker, winning 7-6 over Thad Dillow and Will Ehrlich. Eduardo Vargas and Thomas Tartari claimed victory at No. 3 with a score of 6-2 against Griffin Hammond and Truman Raher.
During singles competition, Kordesh came from behind to win his No. 2 match after losing the first set but taking sets two and three, finishing with scores of 0-6, 6-2, and 12-10. Vargas won his No. 3 match against Hammond by scores of 6-3, 6-1; Aura secured the No.4 position over Ehrlich with scores of 6-3, 6-0; Tartari won at No.5 by defeating Raher with scores of 6-0, 6-4; Masterman completed the singles victories at No.6 by beating Sebastian Rasquin with scores of 6-0, 6-1.
Millikin will return to their home courts on Friday, April 24 for their final regular season match against Wheaton College at Fairview Park.
