Millikin University’s softball team swept a doubleheader against Carroll University at the Workman Family Softball Field in Decatur, Ill. on April 26.

The victories are important for Millikin as they move to a 9-3 record in College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin play and improve their overall standing to 23-12. The team’s strong performance could have implications for their position in the conference rankings as the season progresses.

In the first game, Millikin took an early lead after Ann Marie Meek reached base on a walk and was brought home by Summer Wynn’s triple. Additional runs came from Abbey Matthews’ single, Ava Zukowski’s fielder’s choice, and another bases-loaded walk by Meek. The Big Blue added more runs with hits from Wynn and Haley Willan, ending the game with an 8-0 win in five innings. Condill and Wynn each went 3-for-4 at bat while Matthews was perfect at 2-for-2. Alyssa Dralle earned the win as pitcher, striking out three over five innings.

The second game saw Wynn again drive in the first run with a single that scored Condill. Millikin continued to add runs through contributions from Zukowski, Willis, Meek, and others. Errors by Carroll allowed further scoring opportunities for Millikin, who finished with a 9-1 victory in six innings. Zukowski went 2-for-2 at bat while Willis and Wynn both recorded two hits each. Abby Wilken pitched all six innings for Millikin.

Looking ahead, Millikin will host Wheaton College for another doubleheader on Saturday, May 2 starting at 1:00 PM. This event will also serve as senior day for the team.
