MJM Electric Cooperative visited the State Capitol on April 14 to advocate for rural electric policies. The cooperative, based in Carlinville, Illinois, provides electricity to more than 9,500 meters and services over 2,100 miles of power lines across several counties.
The visit aimed to highlight the needs and interests of rural communities that depend on reliable electric service. MJM serves customers in Macoupin, Jersey, Montgomery, Bond, Fayette, Greene, and Madison counties.
Illinois State Representative Wayne Arthur Rosenthal said: “Thank you to my legislative staff, Rachel Schmock, and my colleague Rep. Mike Coffey, for meeting with this delegation at my Springfield office.”
Rosenthal was elected as a Republican to the Illinois State House in 2023 representing the state’s 108th House District after replacing Charles Meier according to Ballotpedia.
MJM is a not-for-profit cooperative focused on providing reliable electricity for its members. The visit provided an opportunity for legislators and cooperative representatives to discuss policy issues affecting rural areas.
As discussions about energy infrastructure continue statewide, meetings like this are expected to shape future legislative priorities concerning rural utilities.
