MJM Electric Cooperative visited the State Capitol on April 14 to advocate for rural electric policies. The cooperative is based in Carlinville, Illinois, and provides electricity to more than 9,500 meters across several counties.
The visit focused on raising awareness about issues affecting rural electric customers and discussing policy needs with lawmakers. MJM services 2,122 miles of power lines in Macoupin, Jersey, Montgomery, Bond, Fayette, Greene, and Madison counties.
Illinois State Representative Mike Coffey was among the officials present during the advocacy efforts. Coffey is a Republican who was elected to the Illinois State House in 2023 to represent the state’s 95th House District after replacing previous state representative Tim Butler according to the available information.
The event highlighted ongoing discussions between local cooperatives and legislators regarding infrastructure needs and energy policy priorities. These conversations are part of broader efforts by utility providers and public officials to address challenges faced by rural communities.
Looking ahead, MJM Electric Cooperative said it will continue its outreach activities with policymakers as it works toward improving service reliability for its members.
