Monette Group, one of North America’s largest farming operations, filed for financial protection and began a restructuring process, according to an April 23 announcement. The company submitted Chapter 15 proceedings in Delaware Bankruptcy Court and sought creditor protection in Canada through the Companies’ Creditor Arrangement Act.
The move is intended to stabilize Monette Group’s finances amid ongoing industry challenges. President Darrell Monette said in a letter to landowners and leasing partners that the filing is meant to help restructure debt while allowing continued operations. “This filing is a proactive response to current industry pressures (higher input costs, higher interest rates, and tighter credit) and is not a liquidation,” Monette wrote. He added, “We are working with our advisors and a court-appointed Monitor to develop a restructuring plan for credit and court approval.”
Since its founding as a family farm in Saskatchewan in 2010, Monette Group has expanded into Manitoba, British Columbia, Montana, and Arizona. The group manages more than 400,000 acres across Canada and the United States. In 2025, about 55% of the company’s revenue came from grain farming; other income sources include produce production, cattle ranching, and seed processing—according to reporting from Real Agriculture.
The business employs between 300 and 600 people seasonally across its eighteen entities. In recent years it made headlines by transitioning equipment brands: in 2023 it switched from Case IH machinery to John Deere equipment as part of a deal reportedly exceeding $100 million.
