The Village of Montgomery announced on Apr. 28 that it is accepting nominations for its Volunteer of the Year Awards Program in 2026, which aims to recognize individuals and groups who have made significant contributions to the community through volunteer work.
The awards program highlights the importance of volunteerism in building a strong community by acknowledging those who dedicate their time and skills to benefit others. The Village is encouraging residents to nominate individuals, organizations, or businesses that have demonstrated exceptional commitment to volunteering.
A proclamation for Volunteer Month was approved by Montgomery on Monday, April 27. Several volunteers attended the meeting and were recognized for their service on various commissions and committees. Community Engagement & Events Coordinator Rosie Boeing said there has been an increase in volunteer interest over recent years and emphasized the value of recognizing outstanding volunteer efforts through this award program. “We encourage our community to take a moment to nominate deserving individuals or organizations who exemplify the spirit of volunteerism and make a meaningful difference in the lives of others,” says Boeing.
Nominations are open to all ages and can include groups or individuals involved in activities such as local events, beautification projects, youth programs, or senior services. In 2025, past recipients included Dickson-Murst Farm Partners (Nonprofit Organization Impact), Alecia Wahl (Community Impact), Nancy Tranby (Heart of Community), Bob Mehrens (Youth Impact), as well as Harper Ault, Madelyn Gordon, Katelyn LaMonica, and Ava Yarbrough from Peer Leaders at Special Stars, Inc., who received Rising Star Awards.
Award recipients will be honored at a Village Board meeting scheduled for Monday, June 8 at Village Hall. Nominations can be submitted online via montgomeryil.org until May 15. Additional information about volunteering opportunities is available on the Village website or by contacting Rosie Boeing.
