Several regional newspapers recently endorsed Gov. Bruce Rauner in the upcoming election.

The Pantagraph, the Peoria Journal Star, the Decatur Herald & Review and The Herald-News have all run editorials endorsing Rauner.

“Rauner appears to have the best grasp on the magnitude of the state’s overspending and how to fix its structural deficit by flattening or lowering income tax rates, reducing regulations on businesses to allow for their growth and willingness to stay in Illinois and experimenting with counties and cities to allow for no forced union workforces which has been successful in Wisconsin, Kentucky and Michigan, even resulting in an increase in union workers there,” the Journal Star stated.

The Pantagraph stated that Rauner’s stubbornness makes him a better choice for governor because he will stand up to the dysfunction in Springfield.

“The General Assembly will almost certainly remain in [Democratic] control after this election, and Pritzker is not seasoned enough to engage in hand-to-hand combat with leadership,” the Bloomington publication said in an editorial. “We do not need four more years of an unprepared candidate to learn the ropes,”

The Herald-News supports Rauner because the state needs a change in Springfield and that will not happen if Pritzker wins the election, the editorial board said.

“Change will not come at all if voters hand more power to Madigan and the state Democratic machine,” The Herald-News editorial states. “Illinois needs a governor who will fight hard for taxpayers against a legislative majority that has proved only too happy to increase fees and taxes rather than make tough decisions on spending. Illinois needs structural reforms to thrive. Rauner is the candidate we trust most to do that,”
