Rep. Wayne Rosenthal honored the 7th Grade Morrisonville-Lincolnwood Volleyball Team at the State Capitol this week, according to a May 21 announcement.

The recognition took place during a visit that included a tour of the State Capitol and lunch for the team. Events like these are significant as they highlight achievements of local student athletes and encourage community engagement with state government.

During their visit, members of the volleyball team received pizza for lunch after their tour. The gesture was part of an effort to make their experience memorable while being recognized for their accomplishments.

Rosenthal, a Republican, was elected to the Illinois State House in 2023 to represent the state’s 108th House District, replacing previous state representative Charles Meier, according to AFSA Online.

Honoring youth sports teams at government institutions is seen as a way to foster leadership and civic awareness among young people. Observers say such recognitions can inspire students to continue striving in academics and athletics.
