Resurfacing work on Mossville Road between Illinois Route 40 (Knoxville Avenue) and Illinois Route 29 (Galena Road) will begin April 21, according to a statement released April 17. The project is expected to be completed near the end of May.
The resurfacing is intended to improve road conditions for motorists traveling through this section. During construction, drivers are advised to use caution, reduce speed in the work zone, and watch for flaggers as well as equipment entering and exiting the area.
While infrastructure projects like this can affect daily routines, Peoria County’s educational landscape also reflects ongoing activity. In the most recent school year, Peoria County reported an average student-to-teacher ratio of 15-to-1 with a total enrollment of 27,081 students across its schools and a full-time faculty count of 1,844 according to data from the Illinois State Board of Education. Teacher absenteeism in Peoria County schools was recorded at a rate of 32.3%, which is below the statewide average of 35.6% as reported by state education officials.
Enrollment figures highlight diversity within local schools. Dunlap High School had the highest number of white students enrolled at 873 during the last academic year according to official statistics. Richwoods High School led in multiracial student enrollment with a total of 182 students based on state records. Lincoln School recorded the largest Hispanic student population among county schools with an enrollment figure of 218 according to state data, while Peoria High School had the highest Black student enrollment at 798 students as documented by education authorities.
The completion date for Mossville Road resurfacing remains set for late May unless weather or unforeseen circumstances cause delays.
