Motorola Solutions announced on June 1 that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire D-Fend Solutions, a global leader in counter-drone technology, for $1.5 billion. The deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions.

D-Fend Solutions specializes in building core layers of drone security by integrating radio frequency-based cyber takeover technology. With thousands of deployments across more than 30 countries, D-Fend’s field-proven technology is trusted by government agencies, public safety organizations, and the public sector. The company has reported annual revenue growth exceeding 50% over the past three years and anticipates revenues of approximately $185 million in 2026.

The need for airspace security against unauthorized drones continues to grow globally as regulations evolve and enable broader access to solutions. The recently enacted Safer Skies Act as part of the U.S. National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2026 marks a significant change by authorizing trained and certified local and state law enforcement personnel not only to detect and track drones posing risks, but also, in certain cases, safely take control of such threats.

Commercial drones are increasingly used for hostile or malicious activities. D-Fend’s solution supports operational continuity for authorized drones while safely taking over hostile drones and removing them from airspace when necessary.

“Hostile drones have turned airspace into an arena of unforeseen risks where detection alone is not enough,” said Greg Brown, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Motorola Solutions. “Together with D-Fend, drone threats are not just detected – their communications are neutralized and redirected, enabling safe landings and controlled outcomes while maintaining citizen safety.” Zohar Halachmi, Chairman and CEO of D-Fend Solutions, said, “Joining Motorola Solutions allows us to accelerate our mission in securing the skies through leveraging Motorola’s deep expertise and long-standing customer relationships across public safety, federal government, and enterprise sectors so we can achieve greater impact for the communities we serve.”
