The National Kidney Foundation announced on May 20 the appointment of Dr. Marc Hurlbert as its next Chief Executive Officer, effective July 1.
The announcement marks a leadership transition for the foundation, which has been active in patient advocacy, education, and research for more than 75 years. The organization said that Dr. Hurlbert brings over 25 years of experience in healthcare leadership, research advancement, and public health.
“Marc is a mission-driven leader with a strong track record of advancing public health, building strategic partnerships, and supporting patients and families facing serious disease,” said Kevin Longino, CEO of the National Kidney Foundation. “His experience across research, advocacy, healthcare innovation, and nonprofit leadership positions NKF strongly for the future as we continue working to improve kidney health and save lives.”
Dr. Hurlbert has managed more than $750 million in funding through over 4,000 awards to hospitals and organizations addressing public health challenges. He is known for collaborations among patient advocates, academia, government agencies, biotechnology firms and pharmaceutical companies to drive innovation in healthcare outcomes.

Longino will continue working closely with Dr. Hurlbert during the transition period for onboarding continuity across the organization.
