The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) has formally requested that Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker veto Senate Bill 1976, a measure that would require state agencies to adopt certain federal workplace regulations and include them in the state’s administrative code.
According to NFIB, the proposed legislation could increase regulatory requirements, costs, and legal uncertainties for small businesses across Illinois. The organization described these changes as an unnecessary expansion of workplace liability.
“Small businesses are calling on Governor Pritzker to veto SB 1976 and its unwarranted expansion of workplace liability and red tape,” said NFIB Illinois State Director Noah Finley. “Small businesses need regulatory relief, not lawsuits.”
Throughout the legislative session, NFIB has opposed the bill. In its letter to the governor, the group reiterated concerns that SB 1976 would create more administrative burdens for small business owners.
