Northwestern University announced on Apr. 23 a schedule of campus events taking place from May 6 to May 12, including performances, lectures, and community gatherings.
The week’s programming highlights a range of cultural and academic activities open to students and the public. The university aims to foster engagement through literature discussions, music concerts, theatrical performances, and social events.
Events include a conversation with feminist writers Elizabeth Crane and Gina Frangello hosted by the Women’s Center and Northwestern University Press on Wednesday, May 6 at Alice Millar Chapel. The discussion will cover topics such as sex, relationships, #MeToo, and legacies in writing. Book sales and a reception will follow the talk.
On Thursday, May 7 at the Reading Room on University Place, Josh Lerner of People Powered will discuss global shifts in democracy alongside Vijayendra (Biju) Rao from the Buffett Institute. That evening also features an ice cream social for students and Evanston residents at Firefighter’s Park.
Theater enthusiasts can attend “David’s Red-Haired Death” in Wallis Theater from Friday through Sunday. On Sunday afternoon at Martin Stadium, Northwestern women’s lacrosse—having earned the No.1 seed—will compete in the NCAA tournament following results from earlier matches between Notre Dame and James Madison.
Additional highlights include Writers Fest readings by authors Leni Zumas (Monday) as well as Aminatta Forna and Marsha de la O later in the festival. On Tuesday night at Galvin Recital Hall, Bienen alum Thaddeus Tukes joins the Jazz Ensemble for a concert dedicated to jazz vibraphone innovators.
