Eastern Illinois University announced on April 20 that the Panther Club Spring Fling returned to Groniger Arena for the first time since 2019, raising $206,000 in support of Panther Athletics.
The event brought together alumni, friends, supporters, and members of the Eastern Illinois community to celebrate and raise funds for student-athletes. Organizers said the money raised will help provide critical support for both the success and experience of EIU student-athletes.
A highlight of the evening was when Cole LaCrue, Alex Tetteh, and Abby Reinl shared their personal stories as EIU student-athletes. They spoke about building lifelong relationships, overcoming challenges, and representing Eastern Illinois University with pride. Their remarks focused on how donor support helps create opportunities that shape not only stronger athletes but also stronger people.
Director of Athletics Tom Michael said: “The return of Spring Fling was a celebration of everything Panther Athletics represents, tradition, pride, and the incredible people who stand behind our student-athletes. Seeing Groniger Arena full again was a reminder that our community remains deeply invested in helping our student-athletes succeed both on the field and in the classroom.”
Assistant Director of Development Amber May said: “To see so many people come back together for the first Spring Fling in several years was incredibly special. The generosity shown throughout the night speaks volumes about how much this community cares about our student-athletes and the opportunities we can create for them through Panther Club support.”
Sponsors included EIU Alumni Association as presenting sponsor; Drake Homes and Commercial; First Mid Bank & Trust; Rural King; Slumberland; Sarah Bush Lincoln; BSN Sports; Ironhold Asset Management as title sponsors; along with VIP sponsors such as Diepholz Auto Group and others from local businesses who donated items to benefit EIU athletes.
Organizers thanked all attendees, donors, sponsors, and over 140 local business partners whose contributions continue to make a difference in students’ lives.
