Champaign Police hosted students from the Parkland College Early College and Career Academy for a tour of the department on April 17. The visit offered students a chance to learn about police work and see the tools used by officers in serving the Champaign community.
The event matters as it helps high school juniors and seniors explore potential careers in law enforcement while building connections with local agencies.
During the tour, students visited several areas within the department, including Police Services, Records, Patrol, Investigations, and concluded their visit in the CPD Historical Room. This hands-on experience allowed participants to better understand daily police operations.
The class is part of Parkland College’s Early College and Career Academy (ECCA) Program. This dual credit initiative provides career pathway opportunities for high school juniors and seniors from fifteen area schools. Law enforcement is one of nine different career options available through ECCA.
Programs like this aim to prepare students for future employment while giving them real-world exposure to their chosen fields.
